There is a multitude of considerations which follow, when you invest in a collaborative welding robot. Here are some of the biggest tips and considerations, which can help ensure, that you get the biggest success in the implementation of an RBCobot in your production.

1. Grant the employees ownership

Especially when it comes to collaborative robots ownership is essential in being successful with the product. When you use welding robots, a robot operator is not necessary - the welders well be the operators, as they will have to learn how to use the robot. The chances for success are a lot higher, if the welders feel a sense of ownership of the new technology, because they know how to use and program it. In this way, the workflow becomes a lot more effective, and the entire process is not dependent on a single person in the company.

2. Choose the right items

Make sure to identify the right items, which are monotonous to weld. When they are handed over to the robot, that task will subsequently become removed from the workload of the welders. This can help cement the fact, that the robot is a positive change in the company - and gain even more ownership amongst the welders.

Another advice is to select the items, which require the highest level of welding quality. The robot will make the welding seams even more precise, than what is possible by hand - and the welding will become uniform every time.

3. Don't automate 100%

Only automate what makes sense to automate. This means, that the goal is not to automate 100%. It's often true, that the first 80% are not only easier, but cheaper to automate, than the last 20%.

This can end up meaning, that if an item has to be turned in order to make the last welding, then you are usually much better of by getting the welder to finish the process while the item is being controlled. In this regard, it often makes sense to weld a bit by hand, and let the robot start the next item.

4. Evaluate

Remember to continuously evaluate the use of the robot - especially in the beginning. If the robot is too quiet, then try to turn back to your analysis of needs: Which items are especially suitable for the robot?
